Continued innovation increases efficiently
Two local companies’ close partnership managed to develop a machine – “The Zecante DL500 De-Labeller”. This machine was specifically developed for the use with straight-sided bottles in the wine industry but it appears that there may be a wider market covering glass jars and beer bottles.
With the introduction of self-adhesive labels, a major problem has risen in the removal of these labels and glue to allow product to be re-worked.
Until recently the bottles were immersed in liquid for long periods to assist with label removal and stripped manually with a knife blade. This is a potentially dangerous practice, taking from five to six minutes per bottle. The Zecante De-Labeller can carry out this operation at a rate of five to six bottles per minute.

The design has used a similar operation to that of applying labels incorporating a foot plate/pedestal, to locate the bottle and plunger to hold the top of the bottle in line. A simplistic design with safety taken into consideration was a key factor. The labels when removed from the bottles are collected at the back of the machine and if necessary the water can also be collected for recycling. The patent for this machine has now been granted.
