Sheilas take on sharks
Two women have been appointed to the board of the Cronulla Sharks, the first two female directors of the club in its 42 year history. They are Women on Boards members, Denise Aldous and Jenny Reynolds. They are part of a plan to reinvigorate the club’s board and to improve NRL governance after media scrutiny of both NRL finances and off field scandals.
Because sport is such an important part of Australian life, positive role modelling by elite sportspeople is really critical in Denise’s view as a new board member. She is a professional company director and was previously CEO on the International Finance Corporation in Sydney.
Jenny is an ANZ executive and a keen sports woman. Women on Boards, is an Australian lobby group aiming to improve the diversity of governance across the ditch. It lists board vacancies gathered from a number of sources in a bid to improve both transparency of selection and the opportunity for women to apply for directorships.
